An Interview with Dan Gabriel, President and CEO of Aloha Water Company, Inc. of Aiea, Hawaii Part 1

Perseverance and hard work has paid off for Dan Gabriel. He’s a local boy, or “Kama’aina”, and founder of Aloha Water Company, Inc. in Aiea, Hawaii. As President and CEO, he has led and guided his company into a thriving bottled water business. Read below about a ‘Kamaaina’ who built and grew his family business that has thrived for over 15 years.

1. Would you please tell us a little about yourself-family, friends, where you grew up, and hobbies, etc?

A: I was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii. I attended community college at Leeward community college on Oahu, and Tacoma community college in Washington State. I met my wife in Washington, moved back to Hawaii to start a family and opened up a plumbing/handyman service. I did real well and specialized in water treatment equipment in Hawaii. I founded Aloha Water company in 1994. I have 2 wonderfully responsible sons. Both of my sons work for the company.

My hobbies are primarily sports. Basketball has always been big in my household. My sons both played high school ball, and excelled both individually and as a team, with both of them playing in Hawaii State finals for State championships.

2. How many years have you been in the water bottling business and how did you decide to get into this business?

A: I got into the water business by accident 28 years ago just by being a plumber. Companies had just started coming to Hawaii to sell water treatment equipment to household end users. They needed plumbers to install them. I was just in the right place at the right time. I got lucky.

My wife and I saw an opportunity to supply bottled water to our customers and have seen double digit growth for most of our years in business.
